There is currently a big push by the biotech industry to force GM foods into Europe. Whether they succeed is largely in the hands of the supermarkets, which have most power over the European food supply. Until now the supermarkets, under pressure from consumers, have banned GM ingredients from their own-brand products but hardly any have so far banned the use of GM animal feed in their meat, dairy or egg production lines. Please ask the supermarkets to maintain their strong stance against GM ingredients and, in particular, to ensure that their meat, eggs, and dairy products are GM-free. I am writing to express my strong concern about the renewed attempts by some politicians and by the biotech industry to force GM foods into Europe. Many leading scientists have expressed concerns over many years about the safety of GM foods and the lack of proper studies, and my family and I definitely don't want to eat them. I'm therefore writing to ask you for confirmation that you will continue to enforce the strong stand that ........ [insert name of supermarket that you are writing to e.g. Sainsbury's] has taken over nearly a decade to protect us all from the dangers of GM foods by excluding them from your own brand products. I would also ask you, in particular, to ensure that your suppliers of meat, eggs and dairy products feed their livestock only non-GM animal feed. If you have ranges of meat, eggs and dairy that are fed on non-GM feed, please let me know which these are and label these ranges clearly as "GM Free" so I can continue to shop for my family from your stores with confidence, knowing that we are not eating foods produced from GMOs. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours ....
